The Los Alamos Monitor, located in northern New Mexico, is seeking to fill the position of full-time reporter. This award-winning daily newspaper has a circulation of 4,000 and publishes five days a week. The paper is part of Landmark Media Enterprises and can be found online at www.lamonitor.com.
Candidates should possess good writing, researching, interviewing and editing skills along with good grammar, spelling and punctuation skills. A bachelor’s degree in journalism or equivalent training and experience is desired, with 1 to 3 years of newspaper experience.
Responsibilities include submitting bylined articles each day on deadline. Some of these articles will be assigned, others will be reporter-driven articles based on beat coverage, as well as enterprise stories. The position requires taking photos and/or shooting video. The primary beat will be public safety (police, fire, courts) and also other features and topics as assigned. The position also requires occasional layout duties for the Los Alamos Monitor, website maintenance and other assigned tasks when necessary.
This is an hourly position, and it requires evening and some weekend work.
