The state of Texas has many open government laws to help make the work of the state transparent to the public. The primary open government laws are the Texas Public Information Act and the Texas Open Meeting Act.

The Texas AG’s office also offers an open data website. This portal provides data sets for various topics such as police shootings, legislative appropriations requests and various legal publications. None of the publications are protected by copyright. Certain data sets are not available through this portal as the data is private, confidential, or excepted from disclosure under applicable state and federal laws.


Texas Campaign Finance Information System
Campaign finance reports are filed with the Texas Ethics Commission. Not all reports are filed with TEC, such as county judges, justices of the peace, and district attorneys for single county districts. To access reports filed by local filers, please contact the local filing authority for that filer. The TEC website does contain some reports from local authorities that have chosen to file reports on the portal.
