If you’re a journalist who covers environment and climate change issues, there’s a very last-minute – but GREAT – opportunity for you to attend a conference devoted to the European Union’s perspective on climate change NEXT WEEK in Brussels…all expenses paid.

The European Journalism Centre is hosting the ‘Climate Action Conference. Climate Change: The EU Perspective’, an event exclusively for international media, to be held in Brussels from 25–27 October 2010.  This conference is taking place as a precursor to the UN Climate Change Summit in Cancun in December (which is also a great reporting opportunity, especially following attendance at this event.)  This international event gathers climate change experts from governments, NGOs, media and academia, with keynotes from Connie Hedegaard, European Commissioner for Climate Action, Jean-Pascal van Ypersele, Vice-chairman of the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change, and Jeffrey Sachs, Director of the Earth Institute at Columbia University (video conference).

The conference tackles critical themes in the run up to the UN Climate Change talks in Cancun, December 2010. Providing vivid examples of environmental co-operation, the event features debates between policy-makers and environmental thinkers, sharing the latest insights into the growing carbon market and deforestation, among other sectoral issues.

The speaker line up includes Jos Delbeke, DG CLIMA, Laurence Graff, DG CLIMA, Yvon Slingenberg, DG CLIMA, Simone Ruiz, International Emissions Trading Association, Tomas Wyns, Climate Action Network Europe, and Hans ten Berge, EURELECTRIC. The conference will be covered by around 100 journalists from around the world. Journalists wanting to report first-hand on European and international approaches to climate change ahead of Cancun are invited to apply to attend the event. Flights, accommodation and meals during the conference are covered by the organizers.

The EJC welcomes applications from national print, broadcast, and online media journalists from the following countries:

All 27 EU member states
United States of America
Russian Federation
