Knight Center for Environmental Journalism Invites
Entries for Innovator of the Year Award

logoThe Knight Center for Environmental Journalism at Michigan State University’s School of Journalism will award $1,000 to honor an innovative project in environmental coverage. Go here for details. The contest is supported by the John S. and James L. Knight Foundation.

Journalists who are implementing a new idea that is changing the way environmental news and information is communicated are invited to apply. The contest seeks examples of new technology, journalism techniques, or other innovative efforts that advance environmental reporting and the public understanding of environmental issues.

Eligible projects could include a new way of financially supporting environmental journalism, something that tells an environmental story that otherwise would not be told, a new way of publicly reporting an environmental issue, or a new way of engaging people to help report credibly on the environment.

To be eligible, innovations must have been actually put to use between January 1 and December 31 of 2009. Entries from individuals or organizations are eligible.

Besides the $1,000 award, the winner will receive an all-expenses-paid trip to speak about her or his idea during a conference (October 22-24, 2010) at Michigan State University to celebrate the School of Journalism’s 100th anniversary. Visit the Center for Environmental Journalism Web site here for complete program information.
