We’ve received word that judges have reported two more awards in the four-state Region 9 contest, both going to our very own Joe Kolb, editor-publisher of the Gallup Herald.

Joe won first place for “breaking news” for his story “Jury Convicts former Navajo National cop of eexecution-style killing of his wife.”

PLUS, he also grabbed first place in the “news feature” category for “Fear and loathing on the streets of Gallup.”

That brings to 21 the total number of Top of the Rockies awards going to New Mexico entrants. Amazingly, there were only 55 entries from our chapter’s area, meaning almost 40 percent of them won an award. See the next news item for details of a gala awards ceremony and reception to be held in Albuquerque April 20.
