We’ve always kind of thought that the SPJ Chapter-less El Paso should secede to New Mexico – hell, it’s right there in our backyard – and we’re not ashamed to poach a good journalist and chapter member when we find one so we’re pleased to welcome 30-year news veteran Tim Roberts to our chapter.

Tim is an accomplished staff reporter at El Paso Inc., a weekly paper, where he covers the Mexican drug war and El Paso politics.  Besides writing, he’s shoots (photos) and does some multi-media work.

Tim earned his undergrad at Indiana University and a Masters in Creative Writing at Boston University before going on to spend nine years at the Silicon Valley Business Journal and, prior to that, was part of the team that won the Pulitzer for General News Reporting in 1989 at The Courier-Journal in Louisville, KY.

Tim, a big fan of Albuquerque, Santa Fe and tax-deductible business travel, is planning on being a figure at SPJ New Mexico events and sharing his skills, his stories and his personal experiences covering news on the border that both states share.
