Our friends at the Journalism and Women Symposium (JAWS) are having their annual CAMP here in New Mexico, from October 26-28.
Past President Megan Kamerick has this to share:
Our annual Conference and Mentoring Project, or CAMP, is a unique weekend that will provide new skills, networking and mentoring opportunities–and offer really interesting conversations, too.
Our mission is to support the professional empowerment and personal growth of women in journalism and work toward a more accurate portrayal of the whole society. JAWS is a national organization of some 500 members in all stages of their journalism careers.
Our keynoter this year is the legendary Gloria Steinem. Other speakers include Keesha Gaskins of the Brennan Center for Justice at NYU law school talking about voter ID laws, national correspondent Marilyn Geewax of NPR talking about local economic stories in conjunction with the Donald W. Reynolds Journalism Institute, Pulitzer winner Sara Ganim, who broke the Jerry Sandusky story, and sessions on entrepreneurship, covering Indian Country, finding local economic stories, and a variety of technology training sessions. The American Copy Editors Society will also offer discounted training the day before CAMP for attendees.
Plus, there’s a Halloween party because that’s how JAWS rolls.
