The Society of Professional Journalists is sponsoring a high school essay contest, focused on the question: “Why is it important that we have a news media that is independent of the government?”
For the first year, the Rio Grande Chapter of SPJ is participating in the contest, and the board of directors would like to see a strong showing of student entries from New Mexico. The deadline is March 8, 2012. The first place winner will be awarded a $1,000 scholarship.
Click on the PDF below to learn more about the contest–and please consider distributing the flier to students and instructors who might be interested in participating. Or, email the names and email addresses of instructors at your local high school to laura.paskus@gmail.com.
