Journalists in New Mexico, Colorado, Wyoming and Utah should start looking through their clips from the past year–and deciding which stories to submit to the annual Top of the Rockies journalism contest.

SPJ Colorado sponsors the contest, which goes live on Jan. 1. Visit spjcolorado.com to submit your stories before Jan. 31.

SPJ members, by the way, get one free entry–plus discounts on additional entries.

Last year, SPJ’s Rio Grande Chapter members had a strong showing among the finalists and winners. Let’s keep that up!

Update from contest chairman Nic Garcia, nicgarcia@me.com:

To login into our contest click here: http://betternewspapercontest.com/login and choose 2012 Top of the Rockies, followed by your news organization and your password. Your password will be the same as last year. If you have miss placed it, please let me know and I’ll forward it to you.

Like last year, we’ll also use a second website, BlackTie Colorado, to collect entry fees. However, this year, instead of you having to calculate your fees, we’ll be billing you. Once you’ve uploaded your news organizations entries, you must email me so I can I bill you. No entries will be judged until the fees have been paid.
I look forward to working with you all. A reminder, entries are due no latter than 11:59 p.m. Jan. 31, 2012.
