What if you could plot new Census data, tract by tract in your town, on an interactive online map? Your readers could click on each tract to find out what the Census shows about their neighborhood. Your stories would have a great graphic to drive home your points about single parent homes, children living in poverty, best areas to buy cheap homes, etc. The Census mapping trick is just one thing you can learn at the upcoming Oct. 8 workshop with Henry Lopez, digital project manager for The New Mexican. Here’s a map Henry produced for a growth report.
You can also learn a new way to compile interesting tidbits on controversial stories through a free program called Storify. Click here to see one Henry put together on Zozobra.
But hurry, time is running out! We need to know if you want to attend! Respond to the event on our FB page or send coordinator Staci Matlock an email! smatlock@sfnewmexican.com
