Elva Osterreich and Julie Ann Grimm, delegates for your Rio Grande Chapter, will vote on your behalf at the SPJ National Convention on Sept. 25 to 27 on several matters. Please follow the links below to learn about the issues and candidates and send your opinion to eosterreich@alamogordonews.com or jgrimm@sfnewmexican.com.

National bylaw amendment proposals include 1) giving chapters the official right to accept student members; 2) establishing a formal process for when vacancies in national offices occur; 3) requiring a member to designate his or her “home chapter”; and 4) making changes that are described as technical cleanup of typos and other language issues. A fifth amendment that would allow each member a vote for national offices instead of the current chapter delegate method is also scheduled for a floor vote. Many national elected position are unopposed, although there may be surprise “candidates from the floor.” We will need to choose at least a director at large from a field of three and two of three campus representatives: http://www.spj.org/elecbios.asp<
