Rio Grande SPJ is co-sponsoring several events with the Las Cruces Press Women to help expand opportunities for members around the state. On Oct. 12, a panel of local editors will offer tips, strategies, and answer questions for freelance writers and photographers about their experiences working with freelancers. That takes place Saturday, October 12, at 10:30 a.m. in the Good Samaritan – Las Cruces Village auditorium, located at 3011 Buena Vida Circle.

The panelists will include: Tracy Roy, features and special sections editor, and Lorena Sanchez, Pulse/features editor, from the Las Cruces Sun-News; Rachel Christiansen, managing editor of the Las Cruces Bulletin; Morgan Switzer, publisher and managing editor at Real Estate Guide of Las Cruces; Cheryl Fallstead, managing editor of Southwest Senior Publications; arts reporter Doug Pullen of the El Paso Times; and via Skype, Candace Walsh, managing editor of New Mexico Magazine.

The talk is hosted by the Las Cruces Press Women, a professional organization for women and men working in any field of communications. Meetings are open to anyone interested in the topics being presented and there is no charge to attend.

And on Monday, Nov. 18, SPJ and the Press Women will co-sponsor a panel on blogging and social media with author Bob Sanchez, Las Cruces Sun-News Digital Editor Lucas Peerman, and Sun-News Sports Editor Teddy Feinberg. That takes place at 6 p.m., also at the Good Samaritan – Las Cruces Village auditorium, located at 3011 Buena Vida Circle.
