The New Mexico Foundation for Open Government (FOG) invites nominations for the 2019 William S. Dixon First Amendment Freedom Awards.

The awards are given annually to people and groups that have made significant contributions to transparency in state or local government.

Recipients will be selected by a panel of FOG directors. Winners will be announced at the end of August and recognized at FOG’s annual Dixon Awards Luncheon, scheduled for Wednesday, Oct. 2, 2019 at the Marriott Hotel, Louisiana Blvd. and I-40, in Albuquerque.

“The Dixon awards are important as they bring attention to and celebrate those individuals who advance the cause of open government in New Mexico,” award committee chair Kathi Bearden said in a news release. “These dedicated people represent open government in action. In many cases, they sacrifice hours of their personal time performing crucial legislative, legal, educational and investigative work to ensure an open and transparent democracy. Their hard work ensures that New Mexicans enjoy open and transparent government throughout our state.”

Nominations can come from any discipline, including but not limited to business, law, education, government, media and citizen advocacy.

To nominate an individual or organization, visit the NMFOG website. The deadline for nominations is June 14, 2019.
