The KUNM news team has a long tradition of award-winning work covering stories with an eye toward equity that highlight the voices of underserved communities. We approach our work in holding institutions accountable by reporting on the impact policies have on those communities.

As a news organization, KUNM values diversity of perspectives and points of view.  We welcome people from all walks of life.  In our effort to report the news accurately, we pay close attention to the voices we choose to tell the story, preferring to hear from real people, not just PIOs and policy makers.

New Mexico is a state with many serious challenges, but there are also many innovative solutions coming from communities here, which makes for great stories. We also have flourishing and longstanding artistic and cultural traditions that reflect the rich and complex history here.

With more than 300 days of sunshine each year, New Mexico also has fantastic outdoor recreation opportunities, including high desert hiking, mountains, rafting, excellent skiing and climbing. Many of these are a short drive away or within the Albuquerque metro area, which has one of the most extensive open space systems in the country.

KUNM is a diverse, multicultural station serving over 100 communities across central and northern New Mexico.  KUNM has a professional staff of 21.  We work with more than 100 student and community volunteer programmers.  We reach about 100,000 listeners a week in a service area of 1.1 million people.

The position is full time, based in Albuquerque, and is a benefits eligible position at the University of New Mexico. We offer an outstanding paid family medical leave policy plus paid holidays and a very generous sick, vacation, and personal time off plan; voluntary offerings such as vision; a competitive retirement plan match; tuition remission for employees and partners; a tuition-paid dependent education benefit; flexible schedules; engagement and development opportunities; and a casual atmosphere.
