KOB Eyewitness News 4 in Albuquerque is seeking a dynamic and versatile Assignment Editor to join our news team. WE WIN BREAKING NEWS so the starting point for prospective Assignment Editors is alert, organized and vigilant.
This is an editorial and operational position so the successful candidate will be a journalist and have knowledge of broadcast news and ENG. Can you enterprise a story? It’s a must in our newsroom. Our Assignment Editors tap into a network of contacts and conduct regular beat checks, book guests for interviews and perform background and database searches. Intense multitasking and organizational skills are a must as are familiarity with content management systems and social media.
This is a writing position too. You must be able to think on your feet and stay calm under pressure. Assignment Editors contribute to KOB.com and all KOB digital platforms. DUTIES:
Continuously monitor public safety scanners, fixed cameras, social media and e-mail while answering phones and keeping the newsroom informed of significant events and breaking news. Spearhead and/or assist in the assignment of reporters and photographers for breaking news and general assignment coverage. Provide input on story selection and coverage. Coordinate live and tape feeds from Chopper 4, live trucks and satellite sources. Gather information for producers. Monitor external news sources including newspapers, magazines, radio, television and internet. Maintain story files and update newsroom contact lists. Write, edit and post content on KOB.com and KOB social media streams.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
The following physical requirements are typical, but not all-inclusive: Work is 50% sedentary, but does require driving and ability to move around facility. You must have a Manual dexterity to operate computer and other equipment. Light lifting and carrying of record material. Sight and hearing to review news clips, monitor scanners, handle telephone calls and operate company vehicles. Must have a clean driving record.
