Veteran journalist Julie Ann Grimm will step into the editor’s chair at the Santa Fe Reporter after Alexa Schirtzinger leaves later this month.

Grimm is the former president of the Rio Grande SPJ chapter and was the program chair for the Region 9 conference held in Santa Fe earlier this year. She has been at the Santa Fe New Mexican for 10 years, and before that worked for the Associated Press in Albuquerque. She promises that under her leadership, readers can expect “to see stories with direct, tangible ties to their lives.”

Schirtzinger is leaving soon for Stanford University after being selected for a prestigious Knight Fellowship. She plans to study sustainable funding models for alternative news outlets.
